What Air Duct Sealing Includes
In most Central Florida homes the ductwork runs through the attic. A leaking joint there lets cooled air escape into the hottest part of the house, and a leak on the return side draws hot attic air into the system.
We seal the accessible leaks we find with mastic, and reconnect runs that have pulled apart. Sealing is priced on the work required, after we have looked at the ductwork.

Why do leaking ducts matter in Florida?
A Central Florida attic runs far hotter than the air outside on a summer afternoon, and that is where most of the ductwork is. A supply leak dumps cooled air into the attic; a return leak pulls superheated attic air into the system and sends it to your rooms.

Sealing is worth considering when rooms will not cool evenly, the system seems to run constantly or you can see ductwork that has separated in the attic.

How We Seal Ductwork
We check the accessible ductwork in the attic, including the joints, the boots at each register, the takeoffs and the plenum connections, and show you where it is leaking.
Leaks are sealed with mastic, with mesh bedded underneath where a gap is too wide to bridge on its own, and separated runs are reconnected before sealing.

Runs that have pulled apart are reconnected before anything is sealed.

Leaking joints and connections are sealed with mastic, with mesh where the gap is wide.
5. Photograph the work
Sealed joints are photographed when applicable, so you have a record of the work.
6. Clean up
The attic access area is cleaned and the system is put back into service.

Duct tape on an attic joint usually lets go within a season or two: the adhesive dries out, the tape curls and the joint opens again, often before anyone notices. Mastic is a paste that sets over the joint and stays sealed through Florida attic temperatures.

What Duct Sealing Does, and What It Does Not
Duct sealing closes leaks in the ductwork so the air goes where it is supposed to. It does not clean the ducts, and cleaning does not seal them, so it helps to know which one your system needs.
Is Duct Sealing the Same as Duct Cleaning?
No. Cleaning removes what is inside the runs; sealing stops air escaping from them and stops attic air being drawn in.
A cleaned duct that leaks still pulls in attic air, and a sealed duct full of debris still delivers debris. Many homes benefit from both.
Where Do Ducts Usually Leak?
At the joints: where runs connect to the plenum, where branch takeoffs leave the trunk and where the boots meet the ceiling at each register.
Runs that have pulled apart completely are also common, especially after other work in the attic.
Why Not Use Duct Tape?
Ordinary duct tape dries out and lets go in attic heat, usually within a season or two.
Mastic sets over the joint and stays sealed, which is why it is what we use.
Should I Clean or Seal First?
Clean first. Cleaning can disturb weak joints and reveal separations that were not obvious, and those can then be sealed.
Doing both on one visit avoids paying for two trips into the attic.
Can Every Leak Be Sealed?
We seal the joints and connections we can reach safely. Ductwork buried behind insulation or built into walls may not be accessible.
If a run is too damaged to seal, we tell you and explain the options.
